Puerto Olmos has views from Monterrey to Allende and is located right in the mountain ranges of the Sierra de Santiago.
The beginning of this route is located on Paseo del Llano street, in the municipality of Santiago, Nuevo León (follow the road marked by this Wikiloc to get to the beginning of the journey). You'll know you've arrived when you locate a small grill area (on the same street); about 50-100 m ahead, on the same street, you can locate some small Water and Drainage facilities.
In this grill area there is enough space for about 10 cars, approximately. It is necessary to leave them on the side of the street, as it is a single road and you would be obstructing the road. If these places are occupied, you can find a place a few blocks down, without obstructing neighbors' gates.
There is no cost to get to the start of this route.
The sidewalk is marked 2/3 parts, but you have to be very careful in the last section (after the intersection to Puerto Gringo - see waypoints), since there are no longer many slats or walls to be able to locate. Also rely on Wikiloc (it is mandatory to download the route before taking any tour). Where the forest begins (about 5-10 minutes after the intersection), it is necessary to be alert and follow the indicated path to reach Puerto Olmos, since the road can be confused with the one that leads to Las Antenas. In this section there are several ravines, so we must be alert at all times. Some experience in orientation and being accompanied are required to properly identify the right path (THIS LAST STRETCH OF THE ROUTE CAN BE A BIT WASTEFUL).
This route has a level 5 physical difficulty based on our difficulty classification metric. This implies that the ascent has between 800 and 1,000 meters of unevenness. To reach the summit, the slope is somewhat demanding; on average it can be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.; we consider that only the last stretch (forest) has a considerable slope. In this last section there are a couple of ravines that should be taken with caution.
