A unique tour within the town of Arteaga. This circuit through the Penitent Hill offers views and vegetation that are very different from those of other nearby hills.
To get to the start of the tour from the city of Monterrey, take the road to Saltillo and then the road to Matehuala. When you reach the jets, you have to grab the exit to the lilies, but instead of heading towards the lilies, we will continue straight towards the ejido known as El Diamante. You have to pay attention to the signs on the road so as not to end up in another ejido. The beginning of the village is next to a dry dam, in reality it is a dirt road and not a sidewalk.
The parking lot is in a vacant lot that is next to the main road that crosses El Diamante. You have to use the location on the wikiloc and/or our page to see where the parking lot is located.
There is no cost to do this route, only the one with the booths if you are driving from Monterrey.
Emergency kit, sunglasses, poles for hiking.
This route has an intermediate level of route layout, for those who don't have much experience with orientation, you have to be attentive to the Wikiloc but don't depend on it either. The first part of the tour is simple and you just have to follow the dirt road. It is important that you do not miss the transition from the dirt road to the sidewalk, it will be a left-hand turn. From this point forward, the road begins to get a little lost but is still slightly marked. The summit is when he becomes the loser he gets.
The physical difficulty is 7 using our difficulty scale, which implies that the slope of the route is around 1200 meters. It should be noted that although this route has a difficulty of 5, along the route it makes it slightly more difficult. The summit of the penitent is more than 2500 meters above sea level and you can feel mild symptoms of altitude sickness. Apart from this to mention, the high level of vegetation and the easy terrain of the first half of the tour make this adventure not very challenging.
